1 John 1:5-10

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Lead Us Back

Falling down upon our knees
Sharing now in common shame
We have sought security
Not the cross that bears Your name
Fences guard our hearts and homes —
Comfort sings a siren tune

We’re a valley of dry bones;
Lead us back to life in You

Lord we fall upon our knees
We have shunned the weak and poor
Worshipped beauty, courted kings
And the things their gold affords
Prayed for those we’d like to know —
Favor sings a siren tune
We’ve become a talent show;
Lead us back to life in You

You have caused the blind to see
We have blinded him again
With our man-made laws and creeds

Eager, ready to condemn
Now we plead before Your throne —
Power sings a siren tune
We’ve been throwing heavy stones;
Lead us back to life in You

We’re a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in You
We’ve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in You
We’ve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in You

John 4:7-14

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

The Deeper Well

Jesus, take me to the deeper well
I want to see your glory
Jesus, take me to the deeper well
So I will never thirst

Jesus, take me to the deeper well
I want to feel your mercy
Jesus, take me to the deeper well
So I will never thirst

Take my hand
Lead me to the promised land
Take my hand again
Take my hand
Lead me from this broken land
Lead me home again

Jesus, take me to the river side
I want to rest beside You
Jesus, take me to the river side
I want to feel your peace
Jesus, take me to the river side
I want to rest beside You
Jesus, take me to the river side
I want to know your peace

Take my hand
Lead me to the promised land
Take my hand again
Take my hand
Lead me from this broken land
Lead me home again

I just want to see Your face
Meet me in this place
Change me, Lord
Cover me with your grace
Guide me with your hands

EAST/WEST (PSALM 103)

Bless the Lord O my soul
All that is within me bless His name
He’s forgives all our sin
He is slow to anger, full of grace

As high as the heavens are up above
So is the greatness of his love
As far as the east is from the west
He removes our sin from us
As far as the east is from the west
As far as the east is from the west

For the lord knows our frame
Short our days from dust to dust we fade
But His love will remain
Merciful to those who fear his name

The steadfast love of the Lord
Is from everlasting to everlasting

Psalm 42

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”
These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One[d]
with shouts of joy and praise
    among the festive throng.

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

My soul is downcast within me;
    therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
    in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
    have swept over me.

By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

I say to God my Rock,
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
    oppressed by the enemy?”
10 My bones suffer mortal agony
    as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”

11 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

Satisfied in You (Psalm 42)

I have lost my appetite
And a flood is welling up behind my eyes
So I eat the tears I cry
And if that were not enough
They know just the words to cut and tear and prod
When they ask me “Where’s your God?”

Why are you downcast, oh my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
I can remember when you showed your face to me

As a deer pants for water, so my soul thirsts for you
And when I behold Your glory, You so faithfully renew
Like a bed of rest for my fainting flesh
I am satisfied in You

When I’m staring at the ground
It’s an inbred feedback loop that brings me down
So it’s time to lift my brow
And remember better days
When I loved to worship You and learn Your ways
With the sweetest songs of praise

Why are you downcast, oh my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
I can remember when you showed your grace to me

As a deer pants for water, so my soul thirsts for You
And when I survey Your splendor, You so faithfully renew
Like a bed of rest for my painting flesh
I am satisfied in You

Let my sighs give way to songs that sing about your faithfulness
Let my pain reveal your glory as my only real rest
Let my losses show me all I truly have is you
‘Cause all I truly have is You

So when I’m drowning out at sea
And Your breakers and Your waves crash down on me
I’ll recall Your safety scheme
You’re the one who made the waves
And Your Son went out to suffer in my place
And to tell me that I’m safe

So why am I down?
Why so disturbed?
I am satisfied in You

Heart Won’t Stop/Stand by Me

There is not a man or a beast
Nothing on the land or underneath
Oh nothing that could ever on between
The love you have for me.

I could lay my head in Sheol
I could make my bed at the bottom of the darkness deep.
Oh but there is not a place I could escape you

Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after, coming after me.

There is not an angel of a stars
There is not the devil in the dark
Oh nothing that could change the way you are
The love you have for me

I could lay my head in Sheol
I could make my bed at the bottom of the darkness deep
Oh but there is not a place that could escape you

Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after, coming after me

I could lay my head in Sheol
I could make my bed at the bottom of the darkness deep
Oh but there is not a place I could escape you

Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after, coming after me

No I won’t be afraid, No I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

When the night is cold
And the wind is dark
And the moon is the only
Light we’ll see

No I won’t be afraid, No I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

So won’t you, won’t you stand by me
Oh stand by me
Won’t you stand, won’t you stand, stand by me

Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after me
Your heart won’t stop coming after, coming after me

You are My Vision

You are my vision, O king of my heart
Nothing else satisfies, only You, Lord
You are my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Your presence, my light

You are my wisdom, You are my true word
I ever with You, and You with me, Lord
You’re my great Father, and I’m Your true son
You dwell inside me, together we’re one

You are my battle-shield, sword for the fight
You are my dignity, You’re my delight
You’re my soul’s shelter and You’re my high tower
Come, raise me heavenward, O Power of my power

I don’t want riches or a man’s empty praise
You’re my inheritance, now and always
You and You only, the first in my heart
High king of heaven, my treasure You are

High king of heaven, when victory’s won
May I reach heaven’s joy, O bright heaven’s Son
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, O ruler of all

Mere Christianity Book 2, Ch. 5

Well, Christians think He is going to land in force; we do not know when. But we can guess why He is delaying. He wants to give us the chance of joining His side freely….God will invade. But I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realise what it will be like when He does. When that happens (when Christ returns), it is the end of the world. When the author walks on to the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else…comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side. There is no use saying you choose to lie down when it has become impossible to stand up. That will not be the time for choosing: it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realised it before or not. Now, today, this moment, is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last for ever. We must take it or leave it.

Soldier, Poet, King

There will come a soldier
Who carries a mighty sword
He will tear your city down, oh lei oh lai oh Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh Lord
He will tear your city down, oh lei oh lai oh Lord

There will come a poet
Whose weapon is His word
He will slay you with His tongue, oh lei oh lai oh Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh Lord
He will slay you with His tongue, oh lei oh lai oh Lord

There will come a ruler
Whose brow is laid in thorn
Smeared with oil like David’s boy, oh lei oh lai oh Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh Lord
Smeared with oil like David’s boy, oh lei oh lai oh Lord

Victory in the Lamb

He will clothe the poor with crowns
In the kingdom He calls theirs
He will raise them to the halls of heaven
And release their earthly cares.

And the hard times they will come
The black clouds they will break
But His riches come with the morning sun
And they grow green fields of grace

So let all condemnation cease
Let guilt have no more claim
Let the devil lose all dominion

The Lamb of God He came!
The Lamb of God was slain!
The Lamb of God was raised!

The strong ones and the weak
Are the same under His blood
For empty handed all must come
To receive His endless love

So let all condemnation cease
Let guilt have no more claim
Let the devil lose all dominion

The Lamb of God He came!
The Lamb of God was slain!
The Lamb of God was raised!

We will fix our wandering eyes
On the wonders of our Lord
By His sacred stripes we have been healed
Through His wounds our joys’ supplied

So let all condemnation cease
Let guilt have no more claim
Let the devil lose all dominion

The Lamb of God He came!
The Lamb of God was slain!
The Lamb of God was raised!
