There are road trips, there are adventures… then there is Dakar. This event has been going for over 40 years and although it has been moved halfway around the world due to troubled times in the Libyan desert, the event has stayed true to itself and kept all the brutality and bone jarring adventure anyone could ask for.

This year the event takes place in Lima, a place I must admit I don’t know much about, except that it is sure to be a challenge. The 11 days will cover 5000 kilometers (that is just over 3000 miles for Indiana folk like myself) and over 70% of that will be in the sand.

What’s more, they run this event in trucks, buggies, quads and for the truly brave, on motorcycles too!

There is a Dakar channel on YouTube that will host a bunch of coverage for the event… (Official Youtube channel:https://www.youtube.com/user/dakar) most of which is set to some seriously cinematic music (think Pirates of the Caribbean) that somehow still can’t match the scope of the event.
